Aventurin{e} 6109R development started

With the release of 6108R we are now setting our sight on developing Aventurin{e} 6109R on CentOS 7.

CentOS 7 has already been around for a while and the makers of OpenVZ (our virualization solution of choice) also have released their OpenVZ 7 on 25th July 2016.

OpenVZ 7 consists from open components and includes:

  • RHEL7-based kernel, a Linux kernel with patches that implements OpenVZ kernel functionality.
  • Checkpoint/Restore In Userspace.
  • QEMU/KVM
  • P.Haul is the project on top of CRIU that implements the live migration usage scenario.
  • LibVirt - API to manage virtual machines as well as containers

Not only the new 3.10 kernel and the support for CentOS 7 make OpenVZ 7 an intriguing choice, but also the built in support for LibVirt, QEMU und KVM. Because OpenVZ now provides a unified set of command to manage not only traditional OpenVZ VPS's, but also allows to use the same tools to create and manage KVM's.

Aventurin{e} 6109R on CentOS 7 will provide an ISO image of OS, OpenVZ 7 and the GUI to provide a fully featured GUI interface to manage all sensible aspects. The just released Aventurin{e} 6108R already contains code that is ready to run on CentOS 7 and we "only" have to adjust the two modules that deal with the aspects of virtualization. Don't get me wrong: That's complicated enough and will take some time.

Therefore we can only give a tentative release date of Aventurin{e} 6109R, but expect it to be done at the end of the last quarter of 2016 or thereabouts.
