6109R ISO install

The easiest way to install Aventurin{e} 6109R is to download the ISO image and to install a server by booting off the ISO image or off a DVD containing the ISO.

You can download Aventurin{e} 6109R here.

Boot Menu

Once you boot off the ISO/DVD you will see this boot menu from which you can launch the install. The first two options are mostly automated and all you need to do is to set the correct time zone and to configure the network. Beyond that no further user input is required until the install is completed. The option "Test media & do a custom install ..." allows you to do custom partitioning or RAID setup, but it should only be used by experienced Linux users.

ISO Checksum test

If you selected a boot option with media integrity check, then the install image is verified by examining the CRC checksum. It's generally a good idea to do so.

Automated install

Unless you chose the expert mode for installation, the installer will automatically fill out most selections aside from the time zone and the network settings (unless you have DHCP). Once all mandatory options are set, the "Begin Installation" button will launch the install: The disks will be erased, partitioned and formatted automatically as well.

Date and Time Configuration

Just click on the map and it'll set the timezone automatically.

Network Configuration

In this case DHCP has auto-configured the network settings. But you can of course click on the network adapter in question and can configure all options manually without DHCP.

Detailed Network Configuration

Like in this case the "Method" was set to "Manual" and a static IP address (from a private network) was assigned.

Installation

Eventually the package installation process begins. This may take a while, as some 1300 RPMs are included in this install.

Install continues

As you can see here, this ISO has 1378 RPMs to be installed. The actual number might fluctuate a little between various versions of the ISO image.

PLEASE NOTE:

When the install finishes without error, the installer will automatically reboot the server. If the DVD is not ejected automatically, then you may see the boot menu again. In that case please manually eject the DVD/ISO and reboot again to start into your freshly installed Aventurin{e} 6109R.

First boot of 6109R

Once you boot your freshly installed Aventurin{e} 6109R Grub2 will greet you with the standard Grub menu and will automatically commence the startup.

Console Login Screen

Once all services are up you will reach the login screen. On freshly installed 6109R the login details for shell and GUI will be shown on the screen. Simply login as "root" with password "aventurine" and please do NOT forget to go to the web based 6109R GUI interface to finish the web based install, which includes setting a strong root/admin password.

Shell based Network Configuration

Should you ever need to change the network settings again from the command line (and don't want to or can't use the 6109R GUI for that purpose), then aside from the usual shell tools such as "nmtui" you also have our Aventurin{e} network helper, which is located under /usr/sausalito/sbin/network_settings.sh. It allows you to perform the basic network configuration of your 6109R. You can configure IPv4, IPv6 or both. Simply leave those settings empty that you don't want to configure. Like if you don't want to configure IPv6, simply press return when asked for the IPv6 IP address and IPv6 Gateway.

Network Settings Configuration Summary Screen

Once all input has been collected you'll be shown a brief summary and are asked if you want to apply these settings. If not, then you can go back and enter them again. Also recall: If you ever want to change the network settings again from the command line, simply run the script again by executing /usr/sausalito/sbin/network_settings.sh as "root".

Once you have configured the network settings point your browser to the IP address or hostname of your 6109R to finalize the web based setup in the GUI interface.

Web Based Initial Setup

The Aventurin{e} GUI runs on port 444 (HTTP) and port 81 (HTTPS). If accessed at port 80 or 443 it will redirect to either the HTTP or HTTPS version on port 443 and 81. When you connect to the GUI for the first time, you will be asked for a username and password.

The GUI username is "admin" and the password is "aventurine".

Language Selection

Past the login screen the web based setup wizard presents you with the language selection screen. At this time only English is supported, but we're soon adding support for German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese as well. So just click on the "Next" button to proceed.

License Agreement

A bit of legalese follows. Nobody reads that, right? So you can simply scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select "I agree" and then press the "Next" button.

System Settings

This GUI page allows you to set the host- and domain name and you can also finalize the network settings. If you need IPv6 access and got here via IPv4, then you can now simply cut and paste the long IPv6 access details to have them configured as well.

More importantly: You can set an "admin" password of your choice. This very same password will also be applied to the "root" user. But please recall: Only "admin" can login to the GUI, not user "root".

Lastly you can configure the date and timezone of your server and once you hit the "Next" button for a final time the initial web based setup of your Aventurin{e} 6109R has been completed.

Congratulations!

This is the landing page once you're in the GUI interface and you can start to explore the available options.
